Antarctic Holiday – NaPoWriMo 2016 – Day 9

Antarctic Holiday

I would like to take a holiday
in the most exotic place on earth.
Visit penguin colonies,
approach sea lions:
the head of the herd.
Though I understand they are not
the most friendly of species
and perhaps I’ll forego the risk.
I’ll train a team of huskies
or perhaps use a ‘tracked’
Hagglund for transport,
or failing that a sturdy tractor;
they never failed us on the farm.

Being female I’d have to use
a “she-wee”. God knows what
it would look like or how
you would use it.

So there, I’ve said it –

I’d like to take a holiday
in the Antarctic.

But really, I’m a whimp
when it comes to the cold.
It really isn’t on my
Bucket list.

.
And now, for our prompt (optional, as always). This one sounds simple, but it can be pretty difficult. Today, I challenge you to write a poem that includes a line that you’re afraid to write. This might be because it expresses something very personal that makes you uncomfortable – either because of its content (“I always hated grandma”), or because it seems too emotional or ugly or strange (“I love you so much I would eat a cockroach for you”). Or even because it sounds too boring or expected (“You know what? I like cooking noodles and going to bed at 7 p.m.”). But it should be something that you’re genuinely a little scared to say.

Although I repeat the sentence about Antarctic Holiday that was not the thing I was really afraid to write.
